Online FRA template designed for you
Our online tool uses the same format as that used by professional assessors, and we are making it available to you. All questions are straightforward and no specialist knowledge is required. Check out some actual FRAs here.
“There is no legal requirement for a FRA to be carried out by specialists, such as consultants. Indeed it can be advantageous for the responsible person to use guidance and carry out the fire risk assessment themselves. Their consequent understanding of the fire safety will enable them to manage fire safety better” - Colin Todd (consultant fire engineer and author of PAS79)
We provide guidance to complete FRA
We also believe that fire safety does not need to be complicated, and for many regular SME businesses, completing a fire risk assessment does not require expert knowledge. You can undertake your FRA with our common sense, step-by-step approach using criteria approved by the British Standards Institute. It’s a process used by fire risk assessors themselves. We have designed the template after 10 years of visiting hundreds of SMEs.
Highly cost-effective - less pressure on budgets
Our online assessment app is a highly cost-effective yet thorough solution to producing your fire risk assessment. Moreover quality is maintained by our unrivalled experience in helping businesses achieve fire safety.

JTA fire - the smarter way to meet fire regulation
The Fire Safety Order 2005 now makes it law for all buildings to have a fire risk assessment (FRA). It has been law since October 2006. The Order applies to multi-occupied residential buildings and the common areas of flats. It does not apply to the flats themselves, although there are standards that should be achieved – see our residential section.
For residential housing there is the Housing Act 2004 which applies to rented accommodation. Under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRA) there are 29 hazards listed – one of which is fire. Our residential section deals with this in detail.
Retail where each storey is less than 280m2 and no more than three storeys in total (of the business premise) with up to 20 staff. Typically high street shops and shopping centre units.
Offices where each storey is less than 280m2 and no more than three storeys in total (of the business premise) with up to 20 staff. Typically high street offices and multi-tenanted blocks.
Purpose built blocks of flats of no more than five storeys (ground plus four floors, or basement, ground and three floors) with no more than two communal stairwells.
Industrial Estate Retail and Fabrication (joinery shops, light assembly works). Industrial estate business units with or without retail areas up to 5000 square metres.
Small and medium places of assembly for up to 300 people - village halls, community centres, chapels and small churches (but not pubs or restaurants).
Typical high street takeaway or fast food restaurants with limited seating if any – typically burger, chicken, pizza and kebab takeaways.
As these premises by their nature have additional hazards we recommend that we visit to undertake the fire risk assessment.Call for initial free consultation.
Blocks of more than 5 storeys may require an experienced assessor depending on the complexity of the building. Call for initial free consultation.
